NORTH AMERICA An elite field of champions from the previous year’s PGA Tour compete in the PGA’s season-opening SBS Championship event at Kapalua Resort’s famed Plantation Course in Maui, vying for their share of the $5.6 million purse. EUROPE The Canary Islands Music Festival (El Festival de Música de Canarias) is being held January 8 through February 7. Past performers at the Festival include Plácido Domingo, YoYo Ma and André Previn. Attendees at this year’s event, which is the 26th annual, include the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Petr Vit. The event takes place simultaneously on the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and also on stages around the other islands. www.festivaldecanarias.com
EUROPE This January 13 through 17, more than 100 leading modern British and contemporary art galleries will be brought together for the 22nd edition of London Art Fair – the UK’s largest modern British and contemporary art fair – at the Business Design Centre, Islington. Every year, 22,000 visitors enjoy the work of over 1,000 leading artists ranging from modern masters to the most recent talent. Galleries are chosen by a selection committee and include major UK dealers such as Richard Green, Alan Cristea, FAS and Jonathan Clark Fine Art, as well as younger contemporary spaces. The Fair includes the highest-quality paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs, video and editioned prints and multiples.
